Dr. Esther Ngumbi is Assistant Professor in the Entomology and African American Studies departments, at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. A native of Kwale County, Kenya, Esther is very passionate about issues of hunger, gender, education, youth activism, sustainability and agriculture. She is a Food Security Fellow with Aspen Institute New Voices, a Clinton Global University Initiative Commitment Mentor for Agriculture. Esther was the recipient of the first-ever 2017 Emerging Sustainability Leader Award and a finalist for the President Clinton Global Hunger Leadership Award. She was named by One World Action as one of “100 Unseen Powerful Women Who Change the World.”
