Agnes is the Executive Director for Action for Rural Women’s Empowerment (ARUWE) based in Kampala, Uganda. She is a grassroots women’s rights advocate, passionate about gender and climate justice; and rural women’s transformation. She is enthusiastic about strengthening women’s leadership so that collectively they can break the chains of poverty, patriarchy, class and sexual repression. Agnes has over 10 years’ experience in addressing a wide range of issues to bridge gender gaps ranging from economic justice, WASH, sexual and reproductive health and rights, Gender based Violence, environmental, climate change, agro-ecology, policy advocacy and legislative actions.
Agnes is a highly self-motivated individual with capacity to span disciplines and collaborate with governmental, civil society and private sector stakeholders at community, national and international levels. She has demonstrated project management and strategic planning experience with a firm commitment to principles of transparency, equity and participation.
Agnes holds a B.A. Adult and Community Education and a Master’s Degree in Ethics and Public Management. She is also currently serving as the Vice Chairperson, BOD for the Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM) and board member for the council for Economic Empowerment for Women of Africa (CEEWA) Uganda - Chapter.
